Megan Sanders
Megan Sanders, LMHC
My name is Megan Sanders, and I have over a decade of experience working with children, adults, and families in the mental health field. I received my degree in music therapy from Ohio University and became a Board Certified Music Therapist in 2013.
I started my career working at Florida State Hospital, and in my time there, I became the director of treatment services and the trauma-informed care facility trainer. I completed my CMHC degree in 2017 and became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in 2023. From 2018 until 2023, I was a project manager and wellness coordinator for The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, specializing in rural and law enforcement mental health. During this time I also worked as a therapist with Camelot Community Care, specializing with children in foster care, crisis mental health, and family therapy. I have certifications as a Certified Public Manager, Trauma-Informed Care Facility Trainer, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Adoptions Competency, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
In 2023, I won a proposal to write the curriculum for DCF’s Step into Success, a 40-hour training program to help youth aging out of foster care prepare for the professional world. The program was piloted in the spring of this year.
In my current role at The Therapy Room, I specialize in working with our youngest clients, typically ages 4-9. We utilize a variety of creative modalities to help process trauma and build an understanding of safe/unsafe relationships and bonding strategies with caregivers. I have also been a corporate training consultant for the past seven years, creating and facilitating tailored mental health, communication, and parenting training to state, local, and private entities
